This is a no-brainer.
Go Don Draper, as I do, and mix up an Old Fashioned.
2 oz bourbon whiskey
2 dashes Angostura® bitters
1 splash water
1 tsp sugar
1 maraschino cherry
1 orange wedge
I've always used a salicylic acid-based face wash on my skin due to some minor lingering acne. I've recently decided to grow out a thin beard (slightly longer than an omnipresent 5 o'clock shadow) and am wondering if I should use a different face wash now?
There’s no reason you can’t still continue to use your current face wash. The face wash you (or I, or anyone else) chooses is more about the skin type that each person has rather than the facial hair that we wear. The salicylic acid should help keep your acne problems at bay as it sounds like you got oily/acne prone skin. If you’re looking for a face wash to use, that’s still gentle on your skin, the “MenScience Face Wash”:http://www.groominglounge.com/ms-dfw.html has a bunch of salicylic acid in it and should do a great job.
As you grow your beard out, something to consider is using a super popular product like “Bluebeard’s Original Beard Wash”:http://www.groominglounge.com/blorbewa.html) and Beard Saver which are specifically designed to cleanse and condition heavier beards, kinda like shampoo/conditioner for your facial scruff.
Finally, regardless of your facial hair status, you’re going to want to use an exfoliator on a regular basis to get rid of dead skin and un-clog those oily pores, especially if you’re growing a beard. One of our favorites is the Urth Face Scrub. It has a tropical mud-like sand texture that uses a bunch of botanicals to clean and revive the skin. Real winner.
As far as snow gloves, I was a professional Ski Patrolman and a backcountry rescuer, and I have had many many pairs of gloves and destroyed all of them. There are outstanding gloves from people like Hestra, Marmot, Black Diamond, and I use them when I am going BC touring, ice climbing etc.
But for the money, the absolute best winter glove is from Kinco, and they are $10-$18 a pair workgloves. The key here is the treatment, buy one of these two gloves, and throw them in the dryer for 20 mins. Get SnoSeal, SnoSeal brand (its beeswax based waterproofer for leather, and there is nothing better). When the gloves are warm, put them on and squeeze snoseal into the palms and back, and rub it into the leather. Being warm, it will permeate all of the pores. Let them dry someplace warm over night, and you can do a couple more coats. They will be a little tacky at first but that goes away.
I have spent 14 hour days working outside in blizzard conditions with these same gloves and well below sub zero temps, and I can promise you nothing out there is better.
I want to get back into learning how to play the guitar. What are some great resources online to do so?
Jamorama is a great site to get guitar lessons:
Another place is Guitar Super Stars:
The Mini Cooper rides well and has more aftermarket parts than most other cars.
I love music and with the recent rebirth of vinyl (right?), I think its time I should get myself a turntable. I want something that's practicable for someone new in the field, but also something that will give me high quality rips to my computer.
There are a lot of record players that can do this, with varying quality. If you are going to take the time to transfer your LP's to digital, do it at the highest quality you can afford. A great entry level table is the Numark TTUSB which can be found for under $200. For the best USB Turntable, its the "Pro-Ject DebutIII:http://www.project-audio.com/main.php?prod=debutphusb&cat=turntables&lang=en for $499. This sacrifices a little ease of use for the best audio quality possible. This is the table that every audiophile wants or has at this price point.
Also, the Pro-Ject table is available without the USB link for $349 if anyone is looking for a wonderful table with tons of bang for buck.
One of the top embarrassing issues that we get at the Grooming Lounge is guys having yellow teeth. Fortunately, there are a few products out there that can really help and make chompers sparkle white. Our top choice and seller is the “Supersmile Professional Whitening System”: http://www.groominglounge.com/teeth.html . It comes with their minty toothpaste and a whitening accelerator that you simply put on top of the toothpaste. Brushing is exactly the same so you don’t have to change any grooming routines. In a short time, your stained teeth will be white and even better, you didn’t have to pay or go see a doc to make it happen… and it works.
I told this woman I had feelings for her, but she has liked my best friend since grade school. But he doesn't like her. What can I do?
Move on.
I only get them when running outside and not when on a treadmill.
Before you run, lean with you shoulder blades against a wall and you feet slightly apart, 8 in. to 1 foot away from the wall. Lift yourself up on your heels, curling your toes up towards the ceiling for a set of 8-10. Then stand with just the balls of your feet on a step, lowering your heels just below the height of the step, and lifting yourself up onto your toes for a set of 8-10. Start off slow, and build up to 3 sets of 15-20 before each run. I have been following this regiment and running pain free for about 2 years now.
I work with baseball players all the time as an athletic trainer, and I think the way they spit is fascinating. I would like to learn how to do it.
Step 1: Have saliva
Step 2: Spit it out
I'm looking for a stylish weekender bag that doesn't look like a fortified piece of airline luggage.
I have 2 suggestions depending on what style fits you better. I have the Duluth Trading AWOL bag http://www.duluthtrading.com/store/products/35651.aspx. It is awesome for a small carry-on bag. You can fit a tons of stuff in it and the patina only gets better the longer you have it. It has gotten me complements all over the country. If you need something that is larger, more casual, or if you don't like leather, the Wm J Mills duck duffel bags are great http://shop.millscanvas.com/DuckDuffelBags.html
I need a more reliable companion than a woman.
Unless you're strictly in the market for a purebred (snob), go to your local Humane society. Not only will it be easier on your wallet, but in my experience ladies love the heartfelt story of a pound puppy.
Most dogs should have a description of the kind of mix it's believed to be and what kind of pet you can expect. IE - Lazy, good with kids, needs lots of exercise, etc. Look for one chillin' in the corner, not paying any attention to the others yip-yapping.
